About the Press Center

The Press Center for the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China provides services to domestic and foreign journalists covering the event. It is responsible for issuing press cards, processing interview applications, arranging interview activities, providing telecommunications facilities and information service, and responding to journalists’ questions about news coverage of the event.

Duration of Operation: From October 12 till two days after the closing of the Congress.

Service Areas of the Press Center

Functional areas including the Press Conference Hall, Reporter Workspace, Interview Rooms, Exhibition Area, Exclusive Media Workspace, and Catering and Coffee Break Area for Journalists are set up in Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing. Exhibition Area and Catering Area for Journalists are set up in Xiyuan Hotel, located next to Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

The Press Conference Hall, the venue for press conferences and group interviews, is located in the Century Hall on the 3rd floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Reporter Workspace, with 200 cubicles, a photo service room, a public interview room and a radio & television signal service room, is set up in China Hall on the 2nd floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Interview Rooms, the venue for online individual interview with delegates, are set up in Yunnan Hall and Nanjing Hall on the 3rd floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Exhibition Area, including the Digital Media Experience Space, the exhibition zones for People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group, is located in the lobby of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing. The exhibition area of intangible cultural heritage, the space for interactive experiencing of cultural & technological integration and the publishing displaying area are set up in the public spaces on the 2nd and 3rd floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing. The space for interactive experiencing of cultural & technological integration and the publishing displaying area are also set up in the Lobby of Xiyuan Hotel.

In the exhibition area of intangible cultural heritage, you can appreciate the masterpieces of Beijing Eight Handicraft and many other intangible cultural heritages. In the space for interaction experience of cultural & technological integration, you can experience interactive high technologies including the AR, VR, metahuman and intelligent writing desk.

Exclusive Media Workspace, with six working rooms exclusively for People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Media Group, China Daily, China News Service and other local media organizations from Beijing, is located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Catering for Journalists is available in the Century Cafe Hall and the lobby lounge on the 1st floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing, and the Banquet Hall on the 1st floor and the Penglai Spring Restaurant on the 2nd floor of Xiyuan Hotel. Catering services will be free for journalists.

Coffee Break is available in the lobby of the China Hall on the 2nd floor of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing. Tea, coffee and snacks will be free for journalists.

Services Available

Press Card Issuance

Journalists from Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan:

Please collect your press cards at the Reception for Journalists from Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan. Valid ID cards are required for collection.

Foreign journalists:

Please collect your press cards at the Reception for Foreign Journalists. Valid ID cards are required for collection (foreign journalists shall present valid passports and resident foreign journalist press cards issued by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China; and Chinese journalists employed by foreign press in China shall come with ID cards and Chinese employee cards issued by designated organizations providing services to foreign nationals).

Chinese mainland journalists:

Please collect your press cards at the Reception for Chinese Mainland Journalists. ID cards are required for collection.

Notices for collecting press cards and vehicle passes will be published on the website, WeChat account, Sina Weibo account and Toutiao account of the Press Center.

Press Events

The Press Center will hold press conferences, group interviews and organize reporting tours.

Detailed information will be available on the website, WeChat account, Sina Weibo account and Toutiao account of the Press Center.

Data Support

The Press Conference will provide related text, images, video materials and online information. Journalists can access such data on the website, WeChat account, Sina Weibo account and Toutiao account of the Press Center.

Books and audio-visual materials about China are available on the corridor of the second floor, in the lobby of the China Hall and the lobby of the Century Hall of Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Radio and TV Signal Service

The Radio and TV Signal Service Room (2F) provides free access to radio and television signals of programs about the Congress aired by China Media Group. If needed, please apply for it through the Press Center’s website.

Photo Service

The Photo Service Room (2F) provides journalists with press photos related to the Congress.

Telecommunication Services

Free Internet access and paid telephone and fax services are available.

Transportation Services

To facilitate reporting activities, free shuttle bus service is provided between the Hotel Nikko and the Xiyuan Hotel.

Boarding Place: Lobby entrance of the Hotel Nikko and the Xiyuan Hotel

Schedule: The bus departs every 15 minutes from 7:00 to 23:00 daily, from October 12 to 23

Instructions:

1. The shuttle bus will be temporarily suspended during important events;

2. If it is full, the shuttle bus will depart immediately;

3. If there are no passengers at the time of departure, the service will be suspended.

The hotels provide laundry, shopping, currency exchange, 24-hour food service and other services for journalists, at their own expense.

Guide for Reporting Activities

Press conference ahead of the Congress

The spokesperson for the 20th CPC National Congress will hold a press conference ahead of the opening of the Congress. Journalists are welcome to attend the briefing and conduct interviews via video link at Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Interviews along Delegates’ Passage

During the Congress, the Press Center will hold several Delegates’ Passage interviews in the Great Hall of the People.

Opening and closing ceremonies

The opening and closing ceremonies of the Congress will be held at the Great Hall of the People. All journalists are required to show their credentials and invitations, and undergo security checks to enter the coverage sites, where they can sit in meetings, take pictures and make video recordings at designated areas. The Press Center will set a designated area to distribute documents on the second floor of the Great Hall of the People, where the scripts of the report to the Congress will be available in 12 languages including Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, German, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, Vietnamese and Laotian.

Special press conference after the Congress

After the conclusion of the Congress, relevant departments will hold a special press conference, at which the spokespersons for the Congress and members of the document-drafting group for the Congress will brief media on the drafting and formulating process of the documents, including the report to the Congress, resolutions and the amendment to the Constitution of the Communist Party of China.

A separate notice will be issued to offer more detailed information.

Other press conferences

During the Congress, the Press Center will hold a series of press conferences at the Press Conference Hall, where officials of relevant departments and relevant delegates will brief journalists on the latest situation and answer their questions. Journalists can raise questions via video link from the Press Center in Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing.

Group interviews

During the Congress, the Press Center will hold a series of group interviews at the Press Conference Hall, where spokespersons for various delegations will brief journalists on the latest situations and answer their questions.

Reporting tours

The Press Center will arrange many reporting tours in which all journalists covering the Congress are invited to take part.

Interviews with delegates

Journalists who would like to interview a certain delegate can submit an application via the Interviewing Application System at the “Media Service” section on the Press Center’s website.

 

Notes for Media

For your smooth coverage of the Congress, the Press Center kindly reminds you of the following:

● Credentials for interviews and vehicle passes are required to enter or exit the Great Hall of the People and the Press Center. Please take care of your credentials and you are prohibited from lending them to others. If you lose your credentials, you must notify the Press Center immediately.

● Please always bring your credentials, comply with relevant laws and regulations and follow on-site instructions.

● Please place your vehicle pass at the left side of the windscreen of your cars. The license number on the pass must be consistent with the number you submit during registrations. Please park your car in designated areas.

● Security checks are required for access to interviews at the Great Hall of the People and the Press Center. For your own convenience, please do not bring equipment that is not necessary for interviews.

● Please do not leave your camera, video equipment and accessories unattended.

● Please set your mobile phones in silent mode and refrain from any action that may affect other people participating in meetings and activities at the site.

● Working languages for the press conferences are Chinese and English.

● Please place your camera and video equipment in designated places during interviews.

● For any inquiries about interviews, please call the receptions of the Press Center. There are three receptions separately for Chinese mainland journalists, the journalists from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and foreign journalists.

● Please mind the low temperature in Beijing in October and guard against the cold.

 

Guideline for COVID-19 Prevention and Control

Please pay timely attention to epidemic situation and relevant policies, and abide by the regulations of epidemic prevention and control. Make sure to take nucleic acid test on daily basis. Those who fail to take the test according to the requirements cannot enter the venue. Please keep safe social distance, keep wearing a mask, wash hands with soap frequently, and attend to personal hygiene and health.

During registration, please cooperate with temperature taking upon entering the hotel, scan the Health Code, and present your Travel History Code. Those with normal temperature, green Health Code and Travel History Code, and a negative nucleic acid test report within 24 hours are allowed to check in.

When you check in, please cooperate with identity verification, and present the finished Personal Health Screening Form with personal signature. Please make sure to take a nucleic acid test the day you check in.

Closed management of more than 24 hrs and less than 48 hrs will be conducted before the opening and closing ceremony of the Congress. During closed management, please take nucleic acid test on daily basis, wear a mask when you leave the hotel room, and keep safe social distance.

Please take temperature and scan the Health Code upon entering the restaurant. Wash hands with liquid soap and running water or hand sanitizer. Please wear a mask and disposable gloves when taking food.

When taking transport to other venues, please scan the Health Code, cooperate with temperature taking, and keep wearing a mask. Please abide by the relevant rules and regulations against COVID-19 after you arrive.

During the interval between closed managements, please do not leave Beijing, minimize public gatherings such as party or dining with friends or relatives, avoid crowded public places, and make no contact with irrelevant personnel. It is recommended to commute only from your residence to the workplace. The result of a negative nucleic acid test report conducted within 24 hours is requested to re-enter the closed management.

Self-monitor health conditions on daily basis. Please inform the hotel staffs as soon as possible upon the onset of any suspicious symptoms such as fever (≥ 37.3 ℃) or discomfort, or any abnormal conditions of your Health Kit. The medical group at the hotel will provide you inquiry services, and we will arrange vehicles to send you to designated hospitals for further screening or treatment if necessary.

Nucleic Acid Test Service

We provide free nucleic acid test service for you during the Congress. The testing site at Hotel Nikko New Century Beijing is located at outside the hotel lobby on the right, under the corridor between the main building and the Conference Building. The testing site at Xiyuan Hotel is located at outside the hotel lobby on the left, the northern side of the pine greeting guests. Please refer to the attached maps.
